The intralingual muscles start and stop within the tongue, and the muscle fibers are arranged in various directions, longitudinal, transverse, and vertical. When contracted, it changes the state of the tongue. The extralingual muscles move from the mandible, hyoid bone, and styloid process to the tongue. When contracted, they pull the tongue in different directions, changing its position. The two groups of muscles work together to make the tongue perform flexible and complex activities to complete various functions of the tongue;
